Ras Malé, also known as the Maldives Eco City, is a groundbreaking project located in Fushi Dhiggaru Lagoon, minutes away from Malé. Covering 1,150 hectares of land—a landmass nearly three times the combined area of the two phases of Hulhumalé, it’s set to become the largest land reclamation initiative in the nation, aimed at providing 65,000 housing solutions to address the housing crisis. The city will be elevated two meters at its edges and three meters at its centre, to address climate change concerns.  

In adherence to international climate adaptation standards, Ras Malé will run entirely on renewable energy, ensuring that transportation and infrastructure prioritize renewable energy sources for a zero-carbon, green and sustainable urban environment. A state-of-the-art transportation system with hydrofoil technology and a ferry network equipped with modern express speed boats will connect the city seamlessly to Malé.  

Ras Malé is a city that has been thoughtfully designed as an inclusive city, ensuring accessibility for everyone, including those with disabilities. Its infrastructure encompasses accessible roads, public spaces, and buildings enabling easy mobility and full participation in all aspects of city life. Additionally, plans to construct an airstrip near Fushi Dhiggaru Lagoon, connected to Ras Malé, are in progress ensuring it would not disrupt the operations at Velana International Airport. These developments aim to expand trade, revenue, and employment opportunities.
